Moving in Palm Coast During Snowbird Season and the Holidays

Late fall through spring is a great time to move on Florida’s northeast coast. The heat breaks, hurricane season winds down and the afternoon storms mostly stop. It’s also when seasonal residents come and go and the holidays fill up everyone’s calendar. Here’s how to plan a smooth move in Palm Coast and Flagler County during those months.

Why late fall and winter are good months to move here

Moving in July in Florida means heat, humidity and a thunderstorm most afternoons. From about November on, mornings are cooler, the air is drier and you can usually count on a full day of moving weather. Your crew moves faster, and you won’t spend moving day soaked.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs through November 30, so keep an eye on the forecast in early November. After that, the bigger weather worry is a passing cold front that brings wind and a day of rain. We pad-wrap furniture and protect floors either way. For summer and fall moves, see our hurricane-season moving tips.

Snowbird season: arriving in the fall, heading north in the spring

Many seasonal residents arrive in Palm Coast, Flagler Beach and Ormond Beach in late fall and head back north in the spring. If you’re one of them, a few things make the move easier:

  • Book around your travel dates. Tell us when you land and when the closing or lease starts. If the dates shift, we’ll work with you.
  • Furnishing a winter place? Our delivery service can pick up furniture from local stores or Marketplace sellers and set it up before you arrive, or the day you get in.
  • Downsizing into a condo or villa for the season? Measure the elevator, doorways and rooms first. Big sectionals and king beds don’t always fit.
  • Moving back north for good? We handle the local side here, and we can arrange out-of-state moves through trusted partner crews. Just ask when you call.

Spring is the other busy stretch, when a lot of seasonal residents pack up at once. If you’re heading out in March or April, call early.

Gated communities and condos during the season

Communities like Grand Haven, Palm Coast Plantation, Hammock Dunes and the condos along the Hammock fill up when seasonal residents are in town. That can mean more people booking elevators and more moves sharing the same few days. Before your move:

  • Ask the HOA or building manager for the written move rules: allowed days and hours, elevator reservations and where a truck can park.
  • Put our crew on the gate or visitor list for your move date.
  • If the community asks for a certificate of insurance (COI), tell us who it goes to and we’ll send it ahead of time.
  • Reserve the elevator early. In busy weeks, the good time slots go first.

Moving over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s

The holidays are a popular time to move because people have days off and kids are out of school. It’s also when a lot of people try to finish a home sale or start a new lease before the end of the year. Plan ahead:

  • Book early if you want the days right before or after Thanksgiving, or the week between Christmas and New Year’s.
  • Watch the event calendar. St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights (roughly mid-November through January) brings heavy downtown traffic, and Ormond Beach holds its Antique Car Show and Gaslight Parade on Thanksgiving weekend. Moving near either? Ask us about timing.
  • Keep gifts and valuables with you, not on the truck, and wrap fragile ornaments in their original boxes or plenty of paper.
  • Pack holiday decorations first, or right after the holiday, and label the boxes so they go straight to the garage or a closet at the new place.
  • Set up the basics first. If family is coming to the new house, ask the crew to set up the beds, the dining table and the TV first.

Shorter days on moving day

In December the sun sets around 5:30 in the afternoon here, so there’s less daylight for unloading. We like early starts in winter, especially for moves between towns like Palm Coast and St. Augustine or Ormond Beach. Leave the porch lights on and clear a path from the driveway to the door before we arrive.

A simple winter moving checklist

  • Call for a free quote 3–4 weeks ahead, earlier for holiday weeks.
  • Send us your HOA or condo rules, gate procedure and COI request.
  • Measure big furniture and the new doorways, stairs and elevator.
  • Start packing rooms you don’t use every day. Our room-by-room packing checklist helps.
  • Keep medications, documents, chargers and gifts with you.
  • Send us a room-by-room inventory list, with photos if you like, for a more accurate quote.
