Moving in St. Augustine: what to know

St. Augustine is the nation’s oldest city, and its streets were laid out long before moving trucks. Downtown has narrow one-way streets, balconies that hang over the road and very little parking. A move here takes planning before the truck ever arrives.

We move people into and out of historic homes downtown, beach homes on Anastasia Island and Vilano Beach, and the newer gated neighborhoods out by World Golf Village and the SR 16 corridor.

Common St. Augustine moves we handle

  • Historic-home moves downtown and in Lincolnville with narrow stairs and longer carries
  • Beach and condo moves on Anastasia Island, St. Augustine Beach and Vilano Beach
  • Move-ins to gated neighborhoods around World Golf Village and the SR 16 corridor
  • Moves between St. Augustine and Palm Coast, often loaded and unloaded the same day

St. Augustine neighborhoods we move

  • Historic downtown & Lincolnville: Older homes with narrow stairs, tight doorways and almost no driveway parking. Expect a longer carry from the truck.
  • Uptown / San Marco & North City: Mostly older homes north of the Castillo, with better parking than the core of downtown.
  • Anastasia Island, Davis Shores & St. Augustine Beach: Reached over the Bridge of Lions or the SR 312 bridge. Beach homes, raised houses and condos.
  • Vilano Beach: Beach homes and condos over the Vilano bridge on the north side.
  • World Golf Village area: Gated subdivisions with their own gate rules, often including crew lists and a COI sent several days ahead.
  • St. Augustine Shores & the south side: Established neighborhoods off US 1 south, with many retirees and single-story homes.

Local moving tips for St. Augustine

  • Right-of-way permits: the City of St. Augustine requires a Right-of-Way Use Permit when vehicles park in a city right-of-way. Depending on where the truck parks, your move may need one. We’ll go over it with you when we plan the move.
  • Size limits on some streets: some downtown streets have vehicle limits. Aviles Street, for example, is limited to vehicles 8 ft wide, 8 ft high and 24 ft long. We pick the truck and parking spot to fit.
  • Event season: Nights of Lights (roughly mid-November through January) and big downtown events bring heavy traffic and city work restrictions. Book early if you’re moving downtown during those weeks.
  • Bridges: moves to Anastasia Island depend on bridge traffic, especially on weekends. We plan our timing around it.

St. Augustine moving FAQ

Do I need a permit to have a moving truck in downtown St. Augustine?

Often, yes. The City of St. Augustine requires a Right-of-Way Use Permit for vehicles parked in a city right-of-way. Some streets also have vehicle size limits. Call us early and we’ll go over what your street needs.

Do you move between St. Augustine and Palm Coast?

All the time. It’s a short run down I-95, so we can often load and unload on the same day.

Can a moving truck fit on the narrow streets downtown?

Not always right at the door. Some downtown streets have vehicle size limits, so we choose the truck size and parking spot to fit and plan for a longer carry if needed.

When is the hardest time to move in St. Augustine?

Nights of Lights season (roughly mid-November through January) and big downtown event weekends bring the heaviest traffic. If you’re moving downtown then, book early and expect us to suggest weekday mornings.
